Today is a day of good tidings and great joy because I get to tell all of you out there sitting around my virtual kitchen table that my book is coming out next month!
This blog has been in existence for about a year and a half and, during that time, I’ve attempted to contribute humorous content to the digital stratosphere. The book, a collection titled, “I Thought We Agreed To Pee In The Ocean: And Other Amusings From A Girl Wearing Sweatpants,” is the culmination of that work. I’ve selected the best posts, revised and elaborated upon them, and added a few pieces never before seen. And Martlet & Mare Books will be serving it up for your reading pleasure in mid-September.
Here’s the jacket copy:
“From mourning the finale of a beloved television series to accidentally attending a pole dancing class intended for professional strippers, this collection captures life’s absurdities through the perspective of an every-woman. Alena Dillon invites readers to laugh along with her as she reflects on universal experiences including diet frustration (The devil is the Doritos), as well as situations uniquely Dillon’s own, such as pounding on the side of a moving Mister Softee truck. Her widely recognizable stories of love, rejection, body image, snarky baristas, bargain hunting, ill-timed snorting and, of course, public urination, will leave you reeling.”
I’d like to thank all of you followers out there. In March 2012 I started with no audience at all and now, I’m no celebrity, but knowing that 620+ people from around the world will be receiving my writing in their inboxes has been all the motivation I need to sit my butt down into the chair and not stand until I’ve come up with something. Now those somethings will be bound into a real live book. It’s what I’ve been dreaming about since I was ten and typing stories about King Arthur’s court on my dad’s office desktop.
I’m going to wrap this up before I get all misty (I’m sure my dad’s already crying). So, stay tuned. I’ll let you all know when and where the book is available, and provide free giveaways exclusive to you guys, my original readers.
